SK Roses, De Lier
SK Roses in De Lier is a successful family business where a new young generation has taken over the reins. Brothers Marc, Bas and Tom Koene are responsible for the operational management of the business, which consists of three locations with a total of 65,000 m² under glass and just one goal: cultivating high quality Avalanche+ roses all year round.
More than thirty million stems a year are produced, which are supplied to more than fifteen European countries. The in-house R&D department is currently investigating whether the Avalanche+ roses can also be grown under LED lighting, with as little light emission as possible and maintaining the correct climatic conditions as much as possible.
Extensive attention is also being paid to digitisation. The new management registration systems are being used to optimise all processes and allow close monitoring of what investments are needed in order to improve the cultivation, processing and cooling of the roses. SK Roses strives for organic cultivation as much as possible and is ‘On the way to PlanetProof’ certified. Zero emission cultivation within a couple of years is the next goal.
The jury was impressed by the these young entrepreneurs’ daring and vision. They constantly examine how processes within the business and the cultivation of the roses can be improved in order to be able to deliver the very best quality for the top segment in a challenging market.
SK Roses rates highly for innovative entrepreneurship, role in the sector, image of the sector, market-oriented entrepreneurship and risk management.
